Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) architect, designer, Professor, member of the academy of finland. Mr Aalto used to spend summers in Alajärvi in his childhood, later in his youth he lived in Alajärvi. Aalto’s output and his entire career, from the first public building to the last, can be seen in the centre or Alajärvi: the house of the youth assocation, Väinölä and the municipal hospital (1919-1926), the City Hall, the gongregation House (1967-1969) and the library finished by Aalto’s firm (1991)form a representative aalto centre.
